What we offer...

A Warm Derbyshire Welcome

Why not bring your dog?

Enjoy a holiday at Back Tor Farm with your dog. We're sure they’ll have as much fun as you. There are plenty of good dog walks both in the surrounding area and further afield and several pubs and cafes where dogs are welcomed.

For a quick walk, simply take the lane down to the river Noe or follow the footpath up onto the Great Ridge for wonderful views of the Edale Valley.

Our dogs, Sheba and Charley love exploring the woodland paths round the Derwent reservoirs and the open landscapes of the Chatsworth Estate.

Our local pubs, The Rambler and the Nags Head both allow dogs. Look out for the big jar of dog treats on the bar at the Rambler. A stroll over the Great Ridge takes you to Castleton where you will find plenty of dog friendly pubs and cafes. We recommend the Three Roofs Cafe just across the road from the Visitor’s Centre.

We welcome up to two fully house trained, well-behaved small dogs or one large dog at a charge of £30.00 per booking (to cover the additional cleaning cost).

Please bring your own bedding, pet towels etc. You will find an extra supply of dog towels in our drying room.

We ask that dogs aren’t left unattended in the cottages.

Just Bring Yourself

We provide you with almost everything you will need for your stay: complimentary eco washing and dishwashing products, soap dispensers in all the bathrooms, and an endless supply of kindling and logs for the wood-burning stove. There are no hidden costs.

Order a supermarket delivery and we will happily unpack it and put it away before you arrive. We have all the usual supermarkets nearby, including Sainsburys, Tesco, Waitrose and Asda.

EV Charging Point

We have recently installed a 7kw electric vehicle charging point at Back Tor Farm for the use of our guests. A smart card will be provided to enable charging to take place.

All EV power consumption will be charged at our current tariff rate at time of usage.

Heat and Light

Our ‘ETA’ wood pellet boiler provides all the hot water and heating in the cottages. This gives efficient under floor heating in the downstairs areas of both properties. The bedroom radiators and heated towel rails are fitted with thermostatically controlled valves.

Logs, for the wood burning stove come from our own land or are locally sourced.

There is super energy efficient LED lighting throughout the cottages.

Most of the external lights are operated with motion and daylight sensors so as to limit light pollution; we have fantastic night skies here and we wouldn’t want them to be missed.

We have chosen energy efficient appliances (mostly A+ or A++ rated) and will ensure that these run efficiently by testing and servicing regularly.

In the future however, we aim to install photovoltaic panels & a Tesla Powerwall in order to generate our own electricity.

Water

Our water is from a naturally occurring spring below Back Tor. It is harvested in underground tanks of modern construction & then delivered to our water filtration equipment in the ‘Plant Room’. The quality is regularly inspected/tested by the local authority. We have chosen water efficient appliances throughout. Flow restrictors have been fitted to the taps and showers and dual flush toilets have been installed.

Cleaning

Our guests are given a supply of complimentary, eco-friendly products and cleaning materials. We buy these in bulk & wherever possible, we decant into existing containers.

Recycled toilet paper and kitchen paper are bulk bought from The Big Green Smile.
